What more could be said about Florence? No trip to Tuscany would be complete without a visit to its magical capital city. It would take pages and pages to describe everything there is to see in Florence, so here we shall simply list a few of the city’s principal attractions.

Don’t miss Piazza della Signoria with Michelangelo’s David, only minutes away from the Uffizi Gallery and no more than 200 metres from the city’s famous bridge, the Ponte Vecchio. This bridge lined with shops is so unusual you won’t be able to believe you are actually on a bridge over the Arno River!

Don’t miss the Duomo or the Baptistry. If you want to climb up to Brunnelleschi’s Dome and Giotto’s belltower, you should book your visit well in advance (tickets and info at https://duomo.firenze.it/en/home).

Then there is of course the Basilica of Santa Croce with its piazza, where a strong sense of depth is created thanks to skilled use of perspective in the buildings around the square.

Admire the view over the whole city from the heights of Piazzale Michelangelo. Right below it are the Rose Garden and the Iris Garden, both open to visitors. The Rose Garden stays open all year, but the Iris Garden is only open when irises are in bloom, late in the spring. Both gardens contain hundreds of different plant species, and seeing them in bloom is a true sight for sore eyes!

You may wish to continue toward Belvedere Fort, at the top of Boboli Gardens. When you’re about halfway between Piazzale Michelangelo and the Fort, stop to visit the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte.

We recommend keeping off the beaten path and walking around the city as the inclination takes you: you’ll be sure to discover some hidden corners you’ll never forget!

We strongly recommend visiting the town of Fiesole: as spring advances, the whole town is covered with flowering wisteria and a variety of blooms brightening up the local gardens. The view of Florence from above is truly unique, something you really must experience for yourself!
